ABOUT UFOUrban Family Outreach is a program of Washington Pike United Methodist Church in Knoxville, Tennessee. UFO is a non-profit organization which serves the needs of at-risk children in the North Knoxville community. Our mission is to nurture character, community, and hope in children and families in our neighborhood. We provide safe places for children to learn and play so they can grow to be faithful, successful, contributing members of their community. In August 1991, Washington Pike United Methodist Church began an after-school program to address the need for quality child care for low-income families. In September 1998, Belle Morris, Chilhowee, Spring Hill, and Whittle Springs Elementary Schools entered into partnership with the church for mentoring their students. By 2000, the church established a separate 501(c)3 non-profit organization in order to continue and expand these programs. Now known as Urban Family Outreach, the organization has expanded beyond the original after-school programs to include an enrichment program, one-on-one mentoring, and a faith-based sports program. Mission Statement: Urban Family Outreach, Inc., shall reach out to nurture character, community, and hope in children and families. Vision Statement: All children of the North Knoxville community will grow to be faithful, successful, contributing members of their community. |
